Yesterday I completed my first half-ironman distance triathlon, which is comprised of a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride, and a 13.1 mile run.
It was amazing. And SO hard. And completely empowering.
When I got to the top of the hill of the run, turning into the finish area, I gasped, and said out loud, Oh my gosh I am actually going to FINISH this race?
She laughed, and told me, Yes! GO!
I cried from there to the finish line, I was so overwhelmed with emotion.
I started 2015 thinking that swimming with a group of triathletes, thinking it would be good crosstraining only. Somehow they convinced me I should think about a triathlon, and then I signed up for one. And after much anxiety, I bought a bike, wondering, I’m going to spend all this money on a bike… what happens if I hate it?
I don’t hate it. Over the past 6 months, I have fallen in love with swimming and biking, too. It’s like PLAY to me, and just so, so awesome.
I have a detailed race report, if you want to read it, at my DailyMile profile.
But here are some pictures.
